Another Strange Thing In Korea

Songsu and I were on our way to the park when we spotted this gigantic shoe next to the pelican crossing. As it turned out the shoe was actually some kind of moped advertising something. And if that wasn't odd enough, there was a cute doggie chained inside it. Here you can just see his head poking out over the edge of the shoe, looking quite lonely and forlorn. As you can imagine, this spectacle attracted a lot of attention from passersby.

Korea has pelican crossing? It must be a recent import.

Actually, I should just say " pedestrian crossing" because there are no crossings that are the same as Korean ones in the UK. However Pelican crossing (we have 6 different kinds) was the best match. In the UK the majority of our crossings can be operated by pedestians and will not neccessarily permit a pedestrian to cross the road unless they press the button.

I have seen a few of these in Seoul, but really very few.The one that I refer to here in Seongnam cannot be operated by pedestians, so perhaps I should stick to "pedestrian crossing
" as a general term to be on the safe side.
